COVID-19

Order on wearing face masks or visors on public transport

Face masks or visors must be worn on all Midttrafik’s buses as well as on Letbanen, Midtjyske Jernbaner and on all Flextrafik (dial-a-ride) services. The requirement applies until 1 September 2021.

From 14 June, you can remove your face mask/visor when sitting on a bus, train or Letbanen (light rail). You do not need to wear your face mask/visor at bus stations or on Letbanen platforms. You must still wear a face mask/visor when entering and exiting buses or trains, and if you stand up. The requirement also applies to the drivers.

Even if you have a corona pass, you are not exempt from wearing a face mask/visor when travelling by bus, train or light rail.

Drivers, who are sitting behind a screen like in the city busses in Aarhus, shall no longer wear a face mask/visor.

See special COVID-19 travel rules here

Disposable or cloth face masks must cover the nose and mouth, and be held in place by a string, elastic etc. behind the ears or head, and must sit tightly against the face.

A face visor is a plastic screen which covers the eyes, nose and mouth, or the nose and mouth, but which does not sit tightly against the face.

The following customers are exempted from having to wear a face mask/visor:

  • Children under 12 years of age
  • People with impaired consciousness
  • People with physical or mental impairments etc. which prevent them from being able to wear a face mask or visor.

The face mask or visor may be removed completely or partially if there is a creditable reason for doing so. For example:

  • During the brief consumption of food and drink, provided this is permitted according to the rules applying on the means of transport, at the station etc. in question.
  • When taking medicine.
  • When talking with people who lip-read.
  • If the face mask or visor results in breathing difficulties or feelings of being suffocated.
  • For identification purposes by the police.

The drivers are authorised, but not obliged, to turn away customers who are not wearing a face mask or visor. Midttrafik is deploying extra inspectors throughout the Midttrafik area to enforce the government’s order on the use of face masks and visors.

Manned sales open on all Midttrafik buses and Flextrafik (dial-a-ride)

Midttrafik and the other bus operators in western Denmark are opening manned sales on board buses and Flextrafik as from Thursday 6 May, in connection with the easing of restrictions.

What this means for bus passengers:

  • A ticket must be presented to the driver. We recommend you presenting your ticket with an outstretched arm, to maintain maximum distance to the driver.
  • Single tickets can be bought from the driver, paid for in cash. However, we do recommend you use contactless ticketing, via the Midttrafik app or Rejsekort.
If paying with cash, please have the right amount with you.
  • Several passengers can once again be checked in using a Rejsekort when the driver’s help is needed.
  • There will still be self-service on Aarhus city buses, where you can buy tickets from a ticket machine, via the Midttrafik app or using a Rejsekort.
  • You can also still pay using MobilePay before boarding the bus. Read more below.

What this means for Flextrafik (dial-a-ride) customers:

  • You will no longer receive a temporary receipt for a completed journey. Cash will be required for paying the driver. Alternatively, Midttrafik is introducing registration for monthly billing via the Midtrafik app for Flextur and handicapped customers.
  • There are no changes for those customers paying with a payment card.

We recommend using a Rejsekort, the Midttrafik app or Midttrafik webshop if you can.

Temporary payment with MobilePay

As a temporary solution, it will be possible to pay by MobilePay in buses.

If you decide to pay by MobilePay, please be aware of the following:

  • You must complete the payment BEFORE getting on the bus
  • You must know the correct price for your trip, which corresponds to the price of a single ticket. (You can search for the price using Rejseplanen, Midttrafik’s price calculator ‘Prisberegner’, or by calling the Midttrafik Customer Centre on 70 210 230)
  • You must state the travel date and the to/from destination in the text field
  • The payment must be made to Midttrafik’s MobilePay number 545430

It is possible to make the payment at home, if necessary with the assistance of a relative. You just need to be able to present the receipt showing the date of travel and the to/from destination to the ticket inspector.

Fewer customers on buses, Letbanen and Midtjyske Jernbaner railways

Midtrafik’s buses take about 40 passengers on a medium-sized bus, 55 on a medium-sized bus and 65 on an articulated bus.

Letbanen takes the number of passengers there are seats for.

Midtjyske Jernbaner trains are only carrying half the number of passengers they normally do. This means that passengers sit on every other seat. No standing is allowed when travelling by local train.

Passengers can sit alongside, but not opposite each other.

Please do what you possibly can to respect the passenger limitations, and do not get on a bus, train or light rail if it is full.

On buses, trains and light rail, please sit and stand as far apart as you possibly can.

The driver has the right and is obliged to keep the doors closed and drive past bus stops when the bus is full.

On Letbanen and Midtjyske Jernbaner trains, please wait for a train with vacant seats if all the seats are occupied on the train arriving at the platform.

Stay on the right, and wait until everyone has disembarked before entering the bus, train or light rail carriage..

Opening front doors

Passengers can once again enter puses via the front doors from 6 April.

The seats at the very front cannot be used.
